History of the Starfish Country Home School
The Starfish Country Home School is an opportunity for many young Thai children to live and study at the school site. The school is managed and opporated by the Starfish Country Home School Foundation that was created by an American philanthropist, Dr. Richard P. Haugland.
The Starfish Country Home School is located about 28 miles (45 km) north of Chiang-mai. The school location was the former site of Riverine Point Resort. The school got its name from the Starfish Story.
At dawn, an old man was walking along the beach where thousands of starfish were stranded and lay dying because of the low tide. The man saw a little boy throwing them back into the sea. Thinking himself very wise, he said to the boy, "Why are you doing that? It won't make any difference." The boy bent down, picked up a starfish, threw it back into the sea and said, "It makes a difference to this one."
